About Julia

Hi everyone! This is Julia of The Broke and the Bookish, formerly blogging on my own at The Competitive Bibliomaniac.

I read mostly historical romance, but can often be found reviewing paranormal romance, young adult books (mostly distopian/fantasy), fantasy/sci-fi, classics, and the occasional non-fiction book about languages.

Your Favorite Writer

Eloisa James and me

I don't know if I have a favorite writer, though I do feel like I have a lot of writers of the moment. The writer of the moment for my most recent years has been Eloisa James.

Almost all of her books jive really well with me. The stories are interesting and the characters relatable. But what won me over I really think was following her on Facebook in 2009-2010. She was in Paris with her family and just had the most beautiful snippets of life from their year there. Eventually these were added to and compiled into the book Paris in Love

I was lucky enough to get to hear her speak when she made a stop in my hometown (not a bustling hive of literary opportunity either). She was a great speaker and I just know that if I were a student at the university she teaches, I would really enjoy each lecture. She commands that sort of respect from the audience. I wrote a bit about my visit at The Broke and the Bookish if you want to read it.

But yes. That is my current favorite author. Who knows who it will be next :)
